The Mahratta Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture (MCCIA) has achieved a significant milestone with its dedicated helpline service, providing crucial guidance to more than 2,500 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across Maharashtra within just one year of operation.
Comprehensive Support for Growing Businesses
This innovative initiative has reached entrepreneurs and business owners from 35 different districts throughout the state, offering expert advice on various aspects of business operations. The helpline covers everything from starting a new venture to navigating complex processes like loan applications and government scheme registrations.
What sets this service apart is the depth of support provided. According to Prashant Girbane, director general of MCCIA, "It is not just about brief calls telling them to visit the websites for information. The experts have more than hour-long conversations with the MSMEs and guide them through the entire process."
Widespread Reach and Government Recognition
The helpline's impact has been particularly strong in Pune and western Maharashtra regions, where manufacturing units are heavily concentrated. However, recognizing the broader need for such services, MCCIA has expanded the helpline's accessibility to other states, already receiving calls from MSMEs in 13 different states across India.
The initiative has gained official recognition from the state government, which has instructed district industries centers to inform MSMEs about this valuable resource. This government endorsement has further strengthened the helpline's credibility and reach.
Embracing Technology for Business Transformation
In addition to the helpline, MCCIA has launched an artificial intelligence (AI) studio specifically designed to help MSMEs leverage cutting-edge technology to improve their operational efficiency. Approximately 350 MSMEs have already utilized the AI lab, with around 80% being micro enterprises.
"In the past year, MCCIA conducted ground visits to several remote districts across the state to study the AI readiness of small businesses," Girbane explained. "We interacted with over 1,000 MSMEs and enabled them to use AI in their operations, such as creating an app for small transporters to track all the trucks at various locations or automating payroll for manufacturing units."
The helpline operates with the support of 55 empanelled experts who engage in detailed conversations with business owners. To ensure comprehensive support, the service provides callers with a transcript of their conversation and has developed a booklet addressing frequently asked questions.
