Modern Coach Factory Achieves Record Production in Financial Year 2025-26
In a significant milestone for India's railway manufacturing sector, the Modern Coach Factory (MCF) located in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, has reported its highest-ever annual production. During the financial year 2025-26, the factory manufactured an impressive total of 2,126 railway coaches. This output marks a substantial increase of nearly 5% compared to the previous year, when the facility produced 2,025 coaches, showcasing robust growth and enhanced operational efficiency.
Key Achievements and Milestones
One of the most notable accomplishments for the coach factory this year was the completion of its first Vande Bharat trainset. This advanced rake is currently undergoing rigorous testing protocols and is anticipated to be handed over to the concerned zonal railway shortly for commercial operations. The introduction of the Vande Bharat trainset represents a major step forward in India's push for modern, high-speed rail infrastructure.
The diverse range of coaches manufactured during the year highlights the factory's versatility and capability. Variants produced included:
- Vande Bharat coaches
- MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) coaches
- Deen Dayalu coaches
- Sleeper coaches
- AC and non-AC chair cars
- Tejas coaches
- 3-tier economy coaches
- Power cars
- Parcel vans
- Coaches designed for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities) and other specialized rolling stock
Record-Breaking Component Production
Beyond coach assembly, the factory also set new benchmarks in component manufacturing. It recorded its highest-ever production of critical parts, including:
- 2,168 coach set bogies
- 2,205 coach shell assemblies
- 2,182 wheel sets
In the forged wheel segment, the factory produced an outstanding 62,938 wheels, significantly surpassing its target. This achievement reflects major year-on-year growth in both forged and finished wheels, underscoring the facility's expanding capacity and technological advancements.

General Manager Vivek Khare attributed this remarkable success to the collective efforts and dedication of the entire workforce. He emphasized that the record production levels were made possible through teamwork, innovation, and a commitment to excellence in manufacturing processes. This achievement not only boosts India's self-reliance in railway production but also supports the nation's broader infrastructure development goals.
