Mercedes-Benz Unveils Next-Generation Maybach S-Class with Enhanced Luxury and Technology
German automaker Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the next-generation Maybach S-Class, following the recent debut of the updated standard S-Class. This new model continues to serve as the more spacious and luxury-focused variant of the flagship sedan, incorporating the latest design and technological advancements from Mercedes-Benz.
Powertrain Options for the 2026 Maybach S-Class
The updated Maybach S-Class will maintain the S 580 as its core model, now equipped with the enhanced M177 Evo V8 engine. This powertrain delivers an impressive 537 horsepower and 750 Newton-meters of torque. In select markets, a plug-in hybrid version, the S 580e, will be available. It combines a 3.0-liter inline-six engine with a 163-horsepower electric motor and a 22kWh battery, producing a total output of 585 horsepower and 750 Newton-meters, along with an electric-only range of up to 98 kilometers.
The range-topping S 680 model will vary by region. The United States and United Arab Emirates are expected to retain the 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, generating 630 horsepower and 900 Newton-meters. In markets like India, a higher-output version of the 4.0-liter V8 engine with 612 horsepower and 850 Newton-meters is likely to be offered. If a right-hand-drive V12 variant becomes available globally, it could be introduced in India as a Completely Built Unit.
Design Updates and Personalization Features
The updated Maybach S-Class adopts the design changes from the standard S-Class while incorporating Maybach-specific elements. Key exterior features include a larger grille with LED illumination, vertical slats, and an illuminated 'Maybach' script, complemented by a lit Mercedes star on the bonnet. The headlamps feature updated Digital Light technology with a three-pointed star signature and rose gold accents.
The lower bumper includes a Maybach-pattern mesh, and the model remains approximately 180 millimeters longer than the long-wheelbase S-Class. New 20- and 21-inch forged alloy wheels with self-levelling centre caps are offered. Additional updates include an illuminated Maybach logo on the D-pillar and revised tail-lamps with a star-themed lighting pattern.
Mercedes-Benz has expanded personalization options through its Manufaktur programme, introducing new exterior colors, dual-tone finishes, and the Night Series package with darker styling elements and interior themes. Optional features include automatic comfort doors that can be operated via sensors or the infotainment system. Overall, these updates enhance design elements and customization without altering the core aesthetic.
Interior Enhancements and Digital Systems
The interior of the updated Maybach S-Class features new materials, advanced features, and upgraded digital systems while retaining the overall cabin layout. Buyers now benefit from extended leather coverage, new upholstery shades, and, for the first time, a leather-free interior option using textile and man-made materials.
The model adopts the 'Superscreen' dashboard from the S-Class facelift, with Maybach-specific graphics in a rose gold theme. This system runs on the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System, which supports over-the-air updates. An AI-based MBUX assistant enables advanced voice interaction, and an updated electronic architecture manages infotainment, safety, and driving functions. The car continues to offer a Maybach drive mode with a comfort-focused suspension setup.
Other interior changes include a redesigned centre console with open-pore wood finishes and an integrated phone charger. At the rear, seats recline up to 43 degrees and provide heating, ventilation, and massage functions, along with new handheld controls replacing the earlier tablet. Additional features include dedicated holders for champagne flutes, emphasizing rear-seat comfort and luxury.
Market Availability and Expectations
The new Maybach S-Class is anticipated to reach the Indian market around early 2027, following the launch of the updated standard S-Class. Local assembly of the S 580 model is likely to continue, ensuring accessibility for luxury car enthusiasts in the region. This launch underscores Mercedes-Benz's commitment to blending cutting-edge technology with unparalleled luxury in the automotive sector.
