Madhya Pradesh Expands Industrial Land Bank to 2000 Hectares for Manufacturing Investment

In a strategic move to boost industrial growth, the Madhya Pradesh MSME department is set to significantly expand its 2000-hectare industrial land bank. This initiative aims to attract fresh manufacturing investment by focusing on locations near inter-state borders and large tracts of undeveloped land, officials confirmed.

Flexible Twin Approach for Land Development

Under a flexible twin approach, the department will adopt two methods for land allocation. Some parcels will be allotted in an undeveloped form based on specific investor requirements, while selected sites will be transformed into ready industrial clusters equipped with basic infrastructure and utilities. This strategy is designed to speed up project grounding, improve regional industrial balance, and unlock new growth corridors beyond established urban centres.

MSME commissioner Dilip Kumar elaborated on the plan, stating, "The department is actively identifying and developing land banks across multiple districts. We are ensuring the availability of land parcels of varying sizes to suit different industrial needs. As per the requirement of industries, undeveloped land will be allotted, or it will be developed to match industry-specific requirements."

Strong Investor Interest and Key Growth Centres

Kumar noted that companies from Delhi, Haryana, and parts of Madhya Pradesh such as Gwalior and Shivpuri have already shown keen interest in setting up units. Demand for industrial land remains robust in key growth centres, including:

  • Indore
  • Ujjain
  • Dhar
  • Bhopal
  • Gwalior
  • Jabalpur

These areas continue to attract significant investments in manufacturing, logistics, and agro-processing sectors.

Alignment with National Manufacturing Push

This state-level initiative aligns seamlessly with the Centre's broader manufacturing push. In the Union budget announced on February 1, the government proposed reviving 200 legacy industrial clusters nationwide through infrastructure upgrades, technology modernisation, and improved common facilities. This move is expected to strengthen regional manufacturing ecosystems and support MSME growth across the country.

Attractive Prospects for Emerging Industrial Belts

State officials highlighted several factors that could make emerging industrial belts in Madhya Pradesh particularly attractive for businesses:

  1. Proximity to neighbouring markets
  2. Relatively lower land costs
  3. Improving logistics connectivity

These advantages are expected to draw MSMEs, logistics firms, agro-processing units, and light manufacturers to the state.

Expected Outcomes and Future Vision

Policymakers anticipate that the expanded land bank will:

  • Accelerate investment inflows
  • Create substantial job opportunities
  • Drive decentralised industrialisation across districts

This comprehensive approach is set to reinforce Madhya Pradesh's positioning as a key manufacturing destination in central India, fostering sustainable economic development and regional prosperity.
