MPIDC Fortifies Pithampur Water Infrastructure Ahead of Summer Peak

In a proactive move to address anticipated water shortages during the upcoming summer season, the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) is significantly enhancing water infrastructure across the Pithampur industrial belt. The corporation is constructing two substantial new storage tanks, each boasting a capacity of 3.3 kiloliters, with completion scheduled for March.

Strategic Locations and Enhanced Capacity

Officials have confirmed that the two storage tanks are being strategically erected near Special Economic Zone (SEZ) 2 and within Sector 3 of Pithampur. This initiative is specifically designed to bolster buffer capacity in regions where water demand has surged due to the rapid expansion of industrial operations. The primary objective is to ensure a stable and sufficient water supply, preventing any potential disruptions for the industrial units.

MPIDC Executive Director Himanshu Prajapati emphasized the corporation's forward-thinking approach, stating, "We are taking preventive steps ahead of the peak summer period. Pithampur and its adjoining industrial areas have experienced steady expansion in recent years. As industrial activity intensifies, so does the water demand. Our efforts to enhance storage capacity and strengthen feeder systems are crucial to guaranteeing that industries operate without interruption during the critical summer months."

Comprehensive Infrastructure Upgrades

In addition to the storage tanks, MPIDC is also advancing a dedicated feeder project at the Narmada Valley Development Authority pumping station. This critical work is expected to be finalized by February, aiming to provide a more reliable and uninterrupted water supply to the industrial clusters. Together, these upgrades form a comprehensive strategy to mitigate water scarcity risks.

Pithampur's Industrial Significance

Pithampur stands as Madhya Pradesh's largest industrial area, hosting over 1,000 industries and contributing approximately 90 percent of the state's total industrial area revenues. The cluster is a vital hub for diverse sectors including automobile, engineering, pharmaceutical, chemical, and manufacturing units, playing a key role in the state's industrial output and export figures.

Officials note that the additional tanks near SEZ 2 and Sector 3 are projected to significantly improve supply stability and alleviate pressure during periods of peak demand. Furthermore, MPIDC is conducting ongoing assessments in other industrial belts across the state to align infrastructure planning with projected industrial growth, ensuring sustainable development and resource management.
