Western Railway Suburban Services Resume Normally in Mumbai After Overnight Maintenance Blocks

Mumbai commuters received a welcome relief today as Western Railway announced there will be no daytime block on its suburban network. This follows overnight maintenance work that was completed during the early morning hours, allowing regular services to resume without disruption for the daily rush.

Details of the Overnight Maintenance Blocks

The railway authorities conducted two significant maintenance blocks overnight to minimize impact on commuters. The first block was implemented between Vasai Road and Virar stations from 12:15 AM to 4:15 AM. During this period, all slow line trains were diverted to run on the fast line between Virar/Vasai Road and Borivali stations to maintain connectivity.

A more extensive block was simultaneously carried out at Prabhadevi station from 1:30 AM to 6:00 AM. This major block was specifically undertaken for the de-launching of the girder of the Prabhadevi Road Over Bridge, a critical infrastructure maintenance task.

Impact on Suburban Services During the Blocks

During the Prabhadevi station block, several suburban services experienced modifications to their regular schedules:

  • Some services were cancelled entirely
  • Other trains were short-terminated before reaching their usual destinations
  • Several services were reversed from Dadar and Bandra stations

Most significantly, no suburban train services operated between Churchgate and Prabhadevi station during the block period. Additionally, services were suspended at Matunga Road and Mahim stations while the maintenance work was underway.

Return to Normal Operations

With the completion of both maintenance blocks before the morning rush hour, Western Railway suburban services have returned to their regular schedule. Commuters can now expect normal operations throughout the day without any planned disruptions.

The railway officials emphasized that these overnight blocks were strategically timed to cause minimal inconvenience to daily passengers while addressing essential maintenance requirements for the suburban network's infrastructure.
