This strategic shift comes as Maharashtra state authorities accelerate the deployment of comprehensive city gas distribution (CGD) infrastructure while confronting persistent fuel supply challenges.
Advisory Issued for Infrastructure-Ready Areas
The MIDC Industries Association (MIA) has formally circulated an advisory notice, specifically targeting industrial facilities located in regions where PNG pipeline networks have already been established. The association is urging these units to promptly initiate applications for PNG connections. This directive follows high-level governmental discussions led by the chief secretary, where various departments received instructions to streamline and expedite PNG adoption processes.
Industry representatives have clarified that no official deadline has been established for this transition. MIA President P Mohan emphasized that while June 30 has emerged as a reference point during preliminary discussions, this date should not be interpreted as a mandatory cutoff. "There exists a significant institutional push toward PNG adoption, but no official circular mandates LPG discontinuation from any specific date," Mohan stated.
Fuel Supply Disruptions Driving Transition
The timing of this transition initiative coincides with severe LPG shortages that have disrupted manufacturing operations across multiple industrial clusters. These supply inconsistencies, largely attributed to ongoing geopolitical conflicts in West Asia, have negatively impacted production schedules and increased operational expenses for numerous facilities.
To facilitate smoother adoption, authorities have been directed to implement several supportive measures:
- Accelerated clearance procedures for PNG connections
- Enhanced coordination between regulatory bodies and industry associations
- Automatic approval for pipeline installation along roadways within 24 hours, contingent upon restoration compliance
These procedural adjustments specifically target previously identified bottlenecks that have hindered network expansion efforts.
