Nashik Hospitality and Industrial Sectors on Verge of Operational Collapse
A sudden and complete halt in the supply of commercial LPG cylinders by agencies and distributors has pushed Nashik's hotel and industrial sectors to the brink of a total shutdown. With existing stocks projected to be exhausted within the next two to three days, approximately 8,000 hotels and restaurants alongside nearly 600 industrial units are facing imminent operational paralysis, according to industry representatives who sounded the alarm on Tuesday.
Hotels Operating on "Ventilator Support" with Dwindling Reserves
The Association of Bar, Hotels & Restaurants (ABHAR), Nashik, has highlighted the critical dependency of these establishments on LPG for their daily functions. "All the hotels and restaurants are on ventilator support as LPG supply has stopped. They are operating with limited stock that may last only two to three days. Once this stock is exhausted, everything will come to a grinding halt," stated ABHAR president Sanjay Chavan. A prominent city hotelier echoed this dire assessment, revealing, "We have barely four cylinders left, which are enough for two or three days. We will keep operating till the stock is exhausted, but beyond that, we will have no choice but to shut down."
Industrial Production Set to Grind to a Halt
The industrial landscape in Nashik is bracing for severe disruption. LPG is indispensable for a wide array of manufacturing and processing operations, including:
- Heat treatment and powder coating
- Forging and steel fabrication
- Bakery processes and food processing
- Pharmaceutical production
Manish Rawal, vice-president of the Nashik Industries and Manufacturers' Association (NIMA), warned, "Nashik has around 600-700 such units, many of which have only two days to two weeks of LPG stock left. Once that runs out, production will inevitably come to a halt." This potential stoppage threatens significant economic fallout for the region's industrial output.
Domestic LPG Supply Remains Unaffected Amid Crisis
In a stark contrast to the commercial sector's plight, the supply of domestic LPG cylinders in Nashik appears to be functioning normally, with no reported disruptions for household consumers. Homemaker Neha Shinde shared her experience, noting, "I had booked a cylinder, but the delivery person could not reach me as I was out of town. After returning today, I contacted the gas agency, and they delivered the cylinder within two hours." This disparity underscores that the supply chain issue is specifically targeted at commercial-grade LPG, leaving residential users unaffected while businesses face an existential threat.
