North Central Railway Achieves Record Scrap Disposal Revenue in FY 2025-26
The North Central Railway (NCR) zone, headquartered in Prayagraj, has accomplished a remarkable feat in scrap disposal, generating substantial revenue during the financial year 2025-2026. The zone earned an impressive Rs 316.87 crore from the disposal of obsolete materials, significantly exceeding its predetermined target.
Exceeding Financial Targets and Previous Performance
This achievement represents a 15.23% increase over the set goal of Rs 275 crore, resulting in an additional Rs 41.87 crore in revenue. Furthermore, the performance marks a substantial 16.40% growth compared to the previous financial year 2024-25, demonstrating consistent improvement in disposal efficiency and operational effectiveness.
Leadership and Coordinated Efforts Drive Success
The success has been attributed to the coordinated efforts across various divisions and depots within the NCR zone. Under the strategic leadership of General Manager Naresh Pal Singh and Principal Chief Materials Manager S P Dwivedi, the railway administration implemented a systematic approach to scrap management.
Officials emphasized that systematic monitoring and regular reviews at higher levels played a crucial role in not only achieving but surpassing the disposal targets. This structured oversight ensured that all processes were optimized for maximum efficiency and revenue generation.
Diverse Range of Scrap Materials Disposed
The disposal process involved a wide variety of scrap materials, contributing to the substantial earnings. Key items that were successfully disposed of include:
- Condemned wagons and coaches
- Water tanks and steel structures
- Non-ferrous items and other obsolete railway components
Benefits Beyond Revenue Generation
Apart from the significant financial boost, the removal of obsolete materials has yielded additional operational advantages:
- Enhanced Safety: Clearing out old and potentially hazardous materials has improved overall safety standards within the railway infrastructure.
- Operational Efficiency: The disposal has freed up space and resources, allowing for smoother and more efficient railway operations.
Future Goals and Commitment
Looking ahead, the North Central Railway remains dedicated to its ambitious "zero scrap" target in the coming years. General Manager Naresh Pal Singh affirmed that the zone will continue its efforts to set new benchmarks in scrap disposal, building on the current success to further enhance revenue and operational excellence.
This milestone not only highlights the NCR zone's proficiency in asset management but also sets a precedent for other railway zones to follow in optimizing scrap disposal processes for financial and operational benefits.
