The National Institute of Mass Communication and Journalism (NIMCJ) in Ahmedabad has received approval from Gujarat University to offer the fourth year of the Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication (BAJMC, Hons) degree program. Admissions for this program have now commenced.
Exclusive Affiliation
Gujarat University has granted exclusive affiliation to NIMCJ for conducting this fourth-year program. This makes NIMCJ the only institution in the region authorized to offer the BAJMC (Hons) degree under the university's curriculum.
Eligibility Criteria
Prof. (Dr.) Shirish Kashikar, Director of NIMCJ, provided details on the admission process. Students who have completed six semesters of the BAJMC program and wish to pursue the fourth year for an Honors degree are eligible to apply. Candidates must have no backlog in any of the previous six semesters. For those aiming for Honors with Research, a minimum average of 75 percent marks across all previous semesters is required.
Program Curriculum
The fourth-year program, set to begin in July, will cover a range of specialized subjects. These include Media Research, Podcast Production, Media Start-ups, Defense Communication, Science Communication, Media AI Tools, Digital Media Marketing, VFX, Cinematography, Data Analytics, Research Methodology, Industry-based Research Projects, and Asian Media Perspectives. Industry experts will teach these subjects.
Benefits for Students
Upon completion, students will find it easier to gain admission to foreign universities for higher studies without needing additional qualifications. Those who earn the Honors with Research degree will be eligible for direct entry into PhD research programs.
