Nissan is gearing up for a significant push in the competitive Indian passenger vehicle market with the launch of at least two new utility vehicles in 2026. The first off the block will be the Nissan Gravite, a seven-seater B-MPV that is poised to become the brand's second model priced under the crucial ₹10 lakh mark, following the success of the Magnite.
Nissan Gravite: Shared Roots, Distinct Identity
Scheduled for a January 2026 unveiling with sales commencing from March 2026, the Gravite will share its fundamental CMF-A platform and several key components with its cousin, the Renault Triber. Spy shots of test models confirm the dimensional similarities. However, Nissan is ensuring the Gravite carves out its own visual identity.
The upcoming MPV will sport distinctive styling cues to set it apart. These include sleek LED daytime running lights (DRLs), a prominent 'Gravite' badge on the front fascia, and a radiator grille adorned with polygonal elements. The design package is rounded off with a C-shaped bumper, newly designed alloy wheels, and fresh LED taillights.
Feature-Packed Cabin and Expected Powertrain
Inside, the Nissan Gravite is anticipated to mirror the Triber's practical and flexible cabin layout. Key features expected are an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster. Connectivity will be bolstered by wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Convenience is set to be a strong suit with additions like a wireless charging pad, USB ports, cruise control, and the practical removable third-row seats.
Safety is projected to be a major highlight, with the Gravite likely to offer six airbags as standard across variants. The safety suite should also include hill start assist, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), rear parking sensors, traction control, and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
Under the hood, the Gravite is expected to borrow the proven powertrain from the Triber. This means a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates 71 bhp of power and 96 Nm of torque. Transmission choices will likely include a five-speed manual gearbox and an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). Mirroring its Renault sibling, Nissan is also expected to offer a dealer-fitted CNG kit option for cost-conscious buyers.
Aggressive Pricing and Market Position
Nissan's clear strategy with the Gravite is to attack the heart of the volume-driven MPV segment with aggressive pricing. Positioned as a direct rival to the Renault Triber and the popular Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the Gravite is anticipated to have a starting price around ₹9 lakh (ex-showroom). This competitive pricing is crucial for Nissan to gain a strong foothold and attract buyers looking for a feature-rich, seven-seater family vehicle on a budget.
Following the Gravite MPV, Nissan will further strengthen its Indian portfolio with the launch of the Nissan Tekton, a midsize SUV, later in 2026. The Gravite's success will be pivotal in building momentum for the Japanese automaker's renewed India offensive.
