Japanese automaker Nissan has officially announced the name of its upcoming multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) for the Indian market. The model will be called the Nissan Gravite and is scheduled for a full unveiling in January 2026. The confirmation came with the release of the first teaser images, giving enthusiasts an early glimpse of the vehicle's exterior styling.
Design and Styling Highlights
While the Gravite will share its platform with the popular Renault Triber, the teasers confirm a distinct Nissan identity. The front end undergoes a significant refresh, featuring a new grille adorned with the Nissan logo and chrome highlights. The headlamps show a revised shape, and the bonnet incorporates a hood scoop-like element.
Moving to the side profile, the MPV is expected to sport newly designed alloy wheels and functional roof rails. At the rear, the Gravite will boast redesigned tail-lamps and a reworked bumper. Chrome accents continue here as well, and the 'Gravite' name will be prominently displayed on the tailgate, solidifying its new brand identity.
Expected Powertrain and Performance
Mechanically, the Nissan Gravite is anticipated to mirror its Renault sibling closely. It is expected to be powered by the same 1.0-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. This unit produces 72 horsepower and 96 Newton-metres of torque. Transmission choices will likely include a standard 5-speed manual gearbox and an optional Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).
Launch Timeline and Strategic Importance
Nissan has indicated that following its official debut in early 2026, the Gravite MPV is expected to hit dealerships and become available for customers by March 2026. This launch is a crucial part of Nissan's strategy to strengthen its footprint in India's competitive mass-market automotive segment.
Looking beyond the Gravite, Nissan has also outlined its future product roadmap for India. The company has confirmed at least two more models, starting with the Nissan Tekton. The Tekton will be Nissan's version of the next-generation Renault Duster and is slated for debut after the Gravite's introduction.
