The Noida Authority is set to construct a diamond-shaped interchange on the Bhangel Elevated Road, linking it to Vishwakarma Road near Sunworld Vanalika in Sector 107. The project, valued at Rs 66 crore, is expected to be completed within 18 months. It will feature four ramps in a diamond configuration, designed to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow and alleviate congestion. This development is anticipated to enhance connectivity to sectors including the 7x cluster, among others.
Addressing Connectivity Gaps
The 4.5-kilometer elevated road, stretching from Agahpur pump in Sector 51 to the Noida SEZ, has been operational since November last year but lacked exit loops. This deficiency prevented commuters traveling to sectors 41, 42, 47, 48, 107, and the 7x cluster (sectors 74 through 79) from utilizing the road effectively. The proposed interchange at the Hanuman Temple end in Sector 49 will provide entry and exit ramps from Vishwakarma Road, resolving this connectivity gap.
Commuter Challenges
According to Rohit Singh, senior manager (work circle 8) of the Noida Authority, many people travel on this road from Noida to Greater Noida, Surajpur, and Dadri. However, the absence of loops has discouraged residents of nearby sectors from using the flyover, as they cannot exit onto Vishwakarma Road. The Authority has issued a tender for the project, requiring bidders to have prior experience in constructing flyovers, elevated roads, grade separators, interchanges, or loop ramps.
Brajesh Sharma, a resident of Sector 78, noted that the demand for the interchange has been high since the elevated road opened after significant delays. He emphasized that the new interchange will greatly improve road usability and save time for residents of numerous high-rise societies across the 7x sectors, Greater Noida, and Greater Noida West.
Background of the Elevated Road
Initially proposed in 2013, construction of the elevated road began in June 2020. The original deadline of December 2022 was repeatedly extended due to funding gaps, design changes, and slow approvals. The project was ultimately completed more than five years behind schedule. The six-lane flyover, built at a cost of Rs 608 crore, has reduced travel time between Noida and Dadri from nearly 40 minutes to about five minutes, diverting traffic from the heavily encroached Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera Road below.
DSC Road Repairs
The DSC Road, a critical route for commuters traveling to Salarpur, Chhalera, Barola, Bhangel, Agahpur, and nearby villages, has been plagued with potholes and uneven surfaces due to excavation work during the elevated road's construction. Noida Authority officials have announced that repair work on the DSC Road stretch will commence within a week, with resurfacing expected to be completed before the monsoon season.
