Patna Metro's Priority Corridor Nears Completion, Set to Transform City Commute
Patna Metro Final Phase: Malahi Pakri Operations Soon

The Patna Metro Rail Project has reached a significant milestone as its priority corridor moves into the final stage of development. With three key stations already fully operational and construction progressing rapidly on remaining sections, the city is poised to witness a transformation in urban mobility.

Current Progress and Operational Stations

Three stations—Bhootnath, Zero Mile, and Patliputra ISBT—have become fully operational, marking crucial progress in the ambitious metro project. During a high-level review meeting held on Wednesday, Abhay Kumar Singh, secretary of the Urban Development and Housing Department (UDHD) and managing director of Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL), confirmed that the project is advancing efficiently toward its next operational target.

"The project is moving forward efficiently, and the Patna Metro is set to become operational up to Malahi Pakri soon," Singh stated, emphasizing that remaining work has now shifted to 'mission mode' with strict deadlines in place.

Critical Stations and Quality Assurance

Senior officials from both PMRCL and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC), which is executing the project, presented comprehensive updates covering physical and financial progress, civil works, systems integration, and key milestones. Singh specifically directed that the remaining two stations—Malahi Pakri and Khemnichak—on the 6.5-km elevated section of Corridor II must be completed on a war footing.

The readiness of these two stations is critical for launching metro rail operations on the entire initial stretch, commonly referred to as the "Blue Line." However, Singh made it clear that acceleration must not compromise quality or safety standards, instructing officials to implement round-the-clock monitoring of critical activities including track laying, third-rail installation, signaling, and other essential services.

Broader Project Scope and Future Impact

Official sources have confirmed that the Patna Metro's first operational section up to Malahi Pakri remains firmly on track for commissioning in the near future. Once fully operational, the priority corridor will connect five key stations and significantly ease traffic congestion across the city.

While immediate focus remains on delivering the priority corridor without further delays, officials revealed that preparatory work for the two main corridors—Corridor I (Danapur to Khemnichak) and Corridor II (Patna Junction to ISBT)—is progressing simultaneously. Tunneling and viaduct construction on these longer stretches are gathering momentum.

The complete Patna Metro Rail Project will span approximately 31 kilometers with 24 stations, representing a massive infrastructure development for Bihar's capital. Corridor I will extend 17.9 kilometers, comprising 7.3 kilometers of elevated sections serving stations including Danapur, Saguna More, RPS Mor, Patliputra, Meethapur, Ram Krishna Nagar, Jaganpura, and Khemnichak, plus 10.5 kilometers of underground metro lines passing through stations like Rukkanpura, Raja Bazaar, Patna Zoo, Vikas Bhawan, Vidyut Bhawan, and Patna Junction.

Beyond the priority corridor, Corridor II will feature a 7.9-kilometer underground network with stations from Patna Junction (which will serve as an interchange station) to Rajendra Nagar via Akashvani, Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, Patna University, and Moin-ul-Haq Stadium. The entire stretch of Corridor II measures approximately 14.5 kilometers.

The priority section has been operational since October 7, 2025, currently catering to up to 7,000 passengers daily, with weekend footfall reaching peaks of 11,000 passengers. This early success demonstrates the project's potential to revolutionize public transportation in Patna and set new standards for urban infrastructure development in the region.
