Assam's Director General of Police (DGP), Harmeet Singh, led a high-level review meeting on Saturday to assess security and logistical preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Namrup. The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit the industrial town on December 21 to lay the foundation stone for a major Rs 11,000-crore ammonia-urea fertiliser project.
High-Level Meeting Focuses on Seamless Execution
The crucial review meeting saw the participation of key stakeholders, including Naharkatia MLA Taranga Gogoi, Dibrugarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abhijit Gurav, and senior officials from the Assam Valley Fertilizers & Chemical Company Limited (AVFCL) and the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL). The primary objective was to ensure the flawless execution of all programmes during the Prime Minister's visit.
DGP Harmeet Singh meticulously evaluated multiple facets of the event. His assessment covered comprehensive security arrangements, logistical planning, crowd management strategies, and overall readiness. He issued clear directives to all concerned officials, emphasising the need for flawless coordination across various departments and agencies.
"We have reviewed all security arrangements. Our teams are working in complete coordination to ensure that all the programmes of the PM passes off smoothly. Every aspect from security to crowd management has been meticulously planned," stated the DGP after the meeting.
A Transformative Project for Assam's Future
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate a brownfield ammonia-urea complex with a massive annual production capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes (LMT). This ambitious initiative is poised to be a game-changer for the region's economy.
The project is expected to significantly reduce Assam's and the wider northeastern region's dependence on fertiliser imports. By strengthening the agricultural supply chain, it will ensure timely and steady availability of fertilisers for farmers, potentially reducing input costs. Furthermore, the complex is anticipated to generate substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities for thousands of local youth, accelerating industrial growth in Upper Assam.
Naharkatia MLA Taranga Gogoi expressed strong optimism about the project's impact. "This Rs 11,000-crore fertiliser project is a game-changer for Namrup and entire upper Assam. The Prime Minister’s visit will herald a new era of industrial development and employment generation in our region. The project will benefit our farmers immensely by ensuring steady fertiliser supply," he remarked.
Logistics and Public Engagement for the Big Day
The foundation stone-laying ceremony will be followed by a massive public gathering at Namrup, where the Prime Minister will address citizens and stakeholders. The event is projected to attract large crowds from across Upper Assam, necessitating robust crowd management protocols reviewed by the DGP.
The new ammonia-urea complex will be established at the existing BVFCL site in Namrup, utilising brownfield advantages to expedite the project's implementation. Once operational, this facility will cater to the fertiliser requirements of farmers not only in Assam but also in neighbouring states, marking a significant step towards self-reliance in agricultural inputs.
