PNG Companies Launch Aggressive Campaign to Woo Consumers Amid LPG Crisis

Amidst a persistent liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply crisis across the country, cooking gas companies are intensifying efforts to promote piped natural gas (PNG) as a viable alternative for households. In a strategic move to attract consumers, these firms are rolling out a series of consumer-friendly initiatives, including significant reductions in security deposits and complimentary gas offers.

Indraprastha Gas Limited Leads with Reduced Deposits and Free Gas

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the primary supplier of PNG in Rewari district, has announced a substantial cut in the advance security deposit for domestic PNG connections. According to an official statement from Anshuman Singh Kushwaha, CGM and GA Head at IGL, the deposit has been slashed from Rs 7,000 to Rs 5,000, marking a reduction of Rs 2,000. This move is part of a broader campaign to make PNG more accessible and appealing to residents, restaurants, and hospitals in the region.

Kushwaha emphasized that the company has also completely waived the meter security fee for commercial connections, further incentivizing businesses to switch from LPG to PNG. Additionally, customers who register for PNG connections and activate them by March 31, 2026, will receive free gas worth Rs 500, adding an extra layer of attraction for new adopters.

Stability of PNG Crucial for Essential Services

The promotion of PNG comes at a critical time when the LPG crisis has disrupted supply chains, particularly affecting food services and healthcare facilities. Kushwaha highlighted that the stability and reliability of PNG have played a vital role in maintaining these essential services, ensuring uninterrupted operations in sectors that are crucial for public welfare.

IGL has already developed an extensive PNG network in Rewari district, positioning itself to serve a wide range of consumers efficiently. This infrastructure development, combined with the new financial incentives, aims to accelerate the transition from LPG to PNG, offering a more sustainable and dependable energy solution.

Broader Implications for the Energy Sector

This aggressive push by PNG companies reflects a larger trend in the energy sector, where firms are leveraging crises to promote cleaner and more efficient alternatives. By reducing upfront costs and offering tangible benefits, such as free gas, these initiatives not only address immediate consumer concerns but also align with long-term goals of energy diversification and sustainability.

As the March 31, 2026 deadline approaches, it remains to be seen how many consumers will take advantage of these offers. However, the combination of reduced deposits and complimentary gas is likely to boost PNG adoption, providing relief amid the ongoing LPG challenges and setting a precedent for future energy promotions in India.
