Pune worker dies in fall from 19th floor, negligence case

A 19-year-old construction worker lost his life after falling from the 19th floor of an under-construction building in Pune's Baner area on Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 9:30 am when the victim, identified as Ragib Ehsan Raqib, a resident of Katihar in Bihar, was engaged in fixing the outer shuttering plate for the slab on the 19th floor.

Police Register Negligence Case

The Baner police have registered a case of causing death by negligence against the builder, site supervisor and labour contractor under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to causing death by negligence. The complaint was filed by the victim's brother, Mohammed Raquib.

Lack of Safety Gear Alleged

According to an officer from the Baner police, the complainant alleged that the builder, site supervisor and labour contractor failed to provide any safety equipment for the workers. It was further claimed that no safety nets were installed at the site, which led to the victim falling from the 19th floor and dying on the spot. The officer confirmed that a case has been registered and investigations are underway.
