Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney has stressed that all 52 focal points across Punjab require a comprehensive revamp to foster industrial development and attract new investments. Speaking at a press conference in Ludhiana, Sahney highlighted the deteriorating conditions of these industrial areas, citing poor infrastructure, lack of basic amenities, and inadequate maintenance as major concerns.
Current State of Focal Points
The MP pointed out that many focal points suffer from broken roads, irregular water supply, insufficient street lighting, and poor drainage systems. These issues have hampered the smooth functioning of industries and discouraged potential investors. Sahney noted that the focal points, once the backbone of Punjab's industrial growth, are now in a state of neglect.
Proposed Revamp Plan
Sahney proposed a multi-pronged strategy for the revamp, including:
- Upgradation of infrastructure: Repair and construction of roads, drainage systems, and water supply networks.
- Provision of basic amenities: Ensuring 24/7 electricity, street lighting, and security measures.
- Simplification of procedures: Streamlining approvals and clearances for industries.
- Regular maintenance: Establishing a dedicated maintenance fund and team for each focal point.
Government's Role
The MP urged the state government to allocate sufficient funds in the upcoming budget for the revamp. He also called for a special task force to monitor the progress and ensure timely completion of projects. Sahney emphasized that a well-maintained industrial infrastructure is crucial for generating employment and boosting the state's economy.
Industry Response
Industrialists and trade bodies have welcomed Sahney's initiative. They expressed hope that the revamp would address long-standing grievances and make Punjab a more attractive destination for business. Many have been demanding such improvements for years, citing loss of business to other states with better industrial infrastructure.
Sahney concluded by saying that the revamp of focal points is not just a necessity but an urgent requirement to revive Punjab's industrial glory and create a conducive environment for investment.
