A retired Air Force sergeant residing in Chakeri, Kanpur, has been defrauded of Rs 7.76 lakh in a plot deal scam. The police have registered a case involving a fake power of attorney and forgery, and an investigation is underway.
Details of the Fraud
Sergeant Shivbhushan Shukla, who recently retired from the Indian Air Force, alleged that Gurujeet Diwan, a resident of Shyamnagar, cheated him out of Rs 7.76 lakh by promising to arrange a plot. According to the victim, the accused claimed to hold a power of attorney for the plot from SWO India. Subsequently, the plot located at Daheli Sujanpur was registered in the name of Saroj Shukla, the sergeant's wife, in 2012.
Accused's Claims and Missing Documents
In his complaint, Shukla stated that Diwan asserted he possessed a valid power of attorney from SWO India and Simba Realtors Private Limited. The accused promised to provide a copy of the document, but it was never furnished. Consequently, the land mutation could not be completed. Further investigation revealed that the seller had no legal right to sell the land in question.
Police Action and Investigation
Shukla had previously filed a complaint with the Police Commissioner. Based on this complaint, the Chakeri police registered a case against Diwan under sections related to fraud and forgery. Ajay Prakash Mishra, the in-charge of Chakeri police station, confirmed that the matter is currently under investigation. The authorities are examining the documents and statements to uncover the full extent of the fraud.
This incident highlights the prevalence of real estate scams targeting retirees and the importance of verifying property documents before any transaction. The police have urged citizens to exercise caution and report any suspicious dealings to prevent such frauds.
