Rudrapur Ring Road Nears Completion, Trial Run Planned After March 20
After nearly four years of construction, the ring road in the industrial city of Rudrapur is approaching its final stages, with authorities gearing up for a trial run after March 20. This 20.5-kilometer-long four-lane project, long demanded by residents since 2020, is poised to significantly alleviate traffic congestion within the city and enhance connectivity for industrial transport operations.
Project History and Funding Challenges
In 2022, the Public Works Department (PWD) initially drafted a blueprint for the ring road, but the proposal faced delays as the state government withheld funds necessary for conducting a physical survey. The project gained momentum when the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) assumed control, developing a detailed plan that routes the road through the outer peripheries of Rudrapur. Construction commenced following the state government's approval of a substantial budget amounting to Rs 1,100 crore.
Political Oversight and Administrative Coordination
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been actively monitoring the progress of this critical infrastructure initiative, with the district administration and other officials conducting periodic reviews to ensure timely execution. This high-level oversight underscores the project's importance to regional development and economic growth.
Route Details and Connectivity Benefits
Officials have outlined that the ring road will traverse the outer sections of Rudrapur, linking 12 villages along its path. It will connect to National Highway-74 near Shimla Pistaur and Malsa villages, extending further to Temri village in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. From there, the road will cross NH-74 again within Rudrapur and stretch towards Bhagwanpur and Chhatarpur before merging with National Highway-87.
Impact on Industrial Sector and Traffic Management
Local MLA Shiv Arora emphasized the transformative potential of the ring road for Rudrapur's industrial landscape, particularly the SIDCUL industrial area. "Currently, heavy vehicles destined for SIDCUL are prohibited from entering the city between 7 am and 10 pm, leading to prolonged parking after loading goods," he explained. "With the ring road, these vehicles will bypass urban congestion, reaching their destinations efficiently without disrupting city traffic."
Current Status and Future Plans
District Magistrate Nitin Singh Bhadauria reported that construction is approximately 95% complete. "The government aims to initiate traffic on the road at the earliest opportunity, and the entire administration is diligently working towards this objective," he stated. The upcoming trial run after March 20 marks a crucial step towards full operationalization, promising to revolutionize transportation dynamics in Rudrapur and support its industrial growth.
