Rudrapur Ring Road Nears Completion After Four-Year Construction Phase
After nearly four years of construction, the much-anticipated ring road in the industrial city of Rudrapur is approaching its final stages, with authorities scheduling a trial run after March 20. This 20.5-kilometer-long four-lane infrastructure project, which has been a persistent demand from residents since 2020, is poised to significantly alleviate traffic congestion within the city while enhancing connectivity for industrial transport operations.
Project History and Funding Challenges
The journey to this point has not been without obstacles. In 2022, the Public Works Department (PWD) initially prepared a comprehensive project blueprint. However, the proposal encountered significant delays as the state government failed to release the necessary funds required for conducting the physical survey, causing the initiative to stall temporarily.
The project gained renewed momentum when the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) assumed control and developed a detailed plan focusing on the outer areas of Rudrapur. Construction finally commenced following the state government's approval of a substantial budget allocation of Rs 1,100 crore. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has personally monitored the project's progress, with the district administration and other officials conducting periodic reviews to ensure timely completion.
Route Details and Connectivity Benefits
Officials have outlined the comprehensive route that the ring road will follow. The infrastructure will pass through the outer regions of Rudrapur, connecting twelve villages along its path. It will establish a crucial link with National Highway-74 near Shimla Pistaur and Malsa villages, then extend further to Temri village in neighboring Uttar Pradesh.
From that point, the road will cross NH-74 again within Rudrapur's boundaries before extending toward Bhagwanpur and Chhatarpur, ultimately joining National Highway-87. This strategic routing is designed to create an efficient bypass system for through traffic.
Industrial Impact and Traffic Management
Local MLA Shiv Arora emphasized the transformative impact the ring road will have on the city's industrial sector, particularly the SIDCUL industrial area. "Currently, heavy vehicles destined for SIDCUL face restrictions from entering the city between 7 am and 10 pm," Arora explained. "This forces them to remain parked for extended hours after loading goods, creating logistical bottlenecks and inefficiencies."
"With the implementation of the ring road," he continued, "these commercial vehicles will be able to bypass the congested urban core entirely, reaching their destinations without contributing to city traffic congestion. This represents a significant improvement for both industrial operations and urban mobility."
Current Status and Official Statements
District Magistrate Nitin Singh Bhadauria provided an update on the construction progress, revealing that the ring road project is approximately 95% complete. "The government is committed to initiating traffic on this crucial infrastructure at the earliest possible opportunity," Bhadauria stated. "The entire administration is working diligently toward this objective, recognizing the substantial benefits this project will deliver to Rudrapur's residents and industrial community."
The approaching trial run represents the final phase before full operationalization, marking the culmination of years of planning, funding challenges, and construction efforts to address Rudrapur's growing transportation needs.
