Six Companies Compete for Nashik's Major Highway Expansion Project
In a significant infrastructure push, six firms are currently in the race for a substantial road development project valued at Rs 203 crore in Nashik. The ambitious initiative focuses on widening and asphalting a critical 6.4-kilometer stretch of the Nashik–Pune highway, specifically from Dwarka Circle to Datta Mandir in the Nashik Road area. This development is strategically timed to accommodate the massive influx of traffic anticipated during the upcoming Kumbh Mela, a major religious gathering that places immense pressure on the city's transportation network.
Pre-Bid Meeting Addresses Key Concerns
The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) organized a pre-bid meeting on Wednesday, which saw active participation from companies based in Mumbai, Pune, Solapur, and Nashik. During this session, bidders raised several important queries, including a request to exclude the four-month monsoon period from the one-year construction timeline. However, NMC officials firmly emphasized that the project must be completed before the Kumbh Mela, underscoring its urgency. Senior engineering staff from the civic body addressed various technical and procedural questions, ensuring clarity for all participants.
Project Scope and Timeline
The project involves expanding the existing six-lane corridor into a modern 10-lane stretch, designed to handle nearly double the current traffic volume. NMC has already floated tenders, with the submission deadline set for April 11 and bid openings scheduled for April 13. Officials plan to finalize the tendering process and issue work orders to the eligible firm by the third or fourth week of April. The target completion date is March 2027, aligning with the time-sensitive preparations for the Kumbh Mela across Nashik.
Strategic Importance of the Corridor
The Dwarka–Nashik Road corridor is one of the busiest routes in Nashik city, serving vehicles heading towards Pune, Shirdi, and the Sinnar industrial belt, in addition to heavy local traffic. Once upgraded, this corridor is expected to significantly reduce daily commuting delays and provide long-term benefits for Nashik's growing road network.
