Samsung Electronics played a pivotal role in transforming Tamil Nadu's Sriperumbudur region into a thriving electronics manufacturing hub, according to a company statement. Since establishing its facility there in 2007, Samsung has fostered a robust network of suppliers, logistics providers, and manufacturing partners, creating significant opportunities for local businesses.
Ecosystem Growth and Local Impact
The Sriperumbudur belt now hosts a dynamic ecosystem of component manufacturers and service partners, many of whom have enhanced their capabilities to meet global benchmarks in quality, efficiency, and innovation. One example is United Industries Plastic Private Ltd, which grew from two manufacturing units to six across Chennai, including a facility dedicated to Samsung's requirements.
Keerthi Mahalingam, Director of United Industries Plastic Private Ltd, said, "Samsung treats us as partners rather than suppliers. Over the last 13 years, there has been significant knowledge transfer, from manufacturing practices to organisational systems. It has helped us evolve into a stronger company." He added that Samsung's stringent quality systems, ESG practices, and structured workplace standards have encouraged suppliers to upgrade their operations and adopt global best practices.
Supplier Transformation and Global Standards
Vignesh Polymers India Private Ltd, operating in Sriperumbudur since 2007 and associated with Samsung for nearly 15 years, has similarly transformed. Selvakumar, Plant Head at Vignesh Polymers, noted that Samsung's systematic planning from purchase schedules to delivery timelines helps suppliers plan operations and invest with confidence.
"With Samsung, planning is very systematic—from purchase schedules to delivery timelines. This helps us plan our own operations better and invest with confidence," he said. The collaboration has strengthened capabilities in planning, procurement, quality, and R&D, aligning with global manufacturing standards as Samsung expands its product portfolio.

Mahalingam observed that the entire belt has developed over the years, with many companies growing alongside Samsung. The region's evolution from an emerging industrial hub to a major electronics manufacturing center underscores the impact of anchor investments in building local supply chains and upgrading industrial capabilities.
