Surat Authorities Convene to Tackle Hazira Industrial Belt Challenges
In a significant move to address pressing concerns in the Hazira industrial belt, a meeting of the Hazira Notified Area was held at the Surat Police Commissioner's office on Tuesday. Key officials, including Surat Collector Saurabh Pardhi and Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut, engaged with representatives from major industries to discuss long-standing issues affecting the region.
Traffic Congestion and Parking Solutions Take Center Stage
The meeting prioritized traffic management, a critical problem due to heavy congestion during peak hours on roads leading to Hazira. To combat this, authorities have requested the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to expedite road-widening projects. Additionally, companies were urged to coordinate employee release times and stagger shift schedules to reduce congestion from staff buses. They were also advised to avoid allowing heavy vehicles on roads during bus timings to prevent simultaneous traffic from trucks and buses.
Addressing illegal highway parking, officials announced that work on a 10-hectare parking plot for trucks will be accelerated. This initiative aims to eliminate roadside parking issues that exacerbate traffic problems in the area.
Enhanced Coordination to Prevent Labor Unrest
Following recent worker agitation at the AM/NS campus, the meeting highlighted a significant communication gap between workers and company officials. To prevent future tensions, companies were advised to improve coordination with workers and contractors. This includes conducting welfare and interactive activities to educate employees about their rights, facilities, wages, and responsibilities. The goal is to foster better understanding and avoid labor disputes that could disrupt industrial operations.
New Infrastructure and Office Setups Planned
In a bid to enhance administrative efficiency, it was decided that a new DCP Zone-7 office and DCP Traffic office will be established at Ichhapore GIDC. This facility will also house offices for ACP Traffic and ACP N Division, along with a conference and community hall. Construction of this office is expected to commence soon, providing a centralized hub for law enforcement and community engagement in the industrial belt.
Key Industry Players Participate in Discussions
The meeting saw participation from representatives of major companies operating in Hazira, Ichhapore, and nearby areas. Attendees included industry giants such as Reliance, Adani, AM/NS, L&T, ONGC, and KRIBHCO, all of whom manage critical industrial installations in the region. Their involvement underscores the collaborative effort between authorities and the private sector to resolve these issues.
Overall, the meeting emphasized a proactive approach to improving infrastructure, traffic management, and labor relations in the Hazira industrial belt, aiming to boost productivity and maintain industrial harmony in Surat.
