In a significant boost to India's electronics manufacturing sector, Hyderabad-based Syrma SGS Technology Limited is making a major strategic investment. The company is channeling $90 million (approximately Rs 1,550 crore) into establishing a state-of-the-art printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh.
A Strategic Joint Venture Drives the Investment
The new plant will be set up at Naidupeta in Andhra Pradesh through Syrma's subsidiary, Syrma Strategic Electronics. This ambitious project is being realized as part of an Rs 1,800 crore joint venture between Syrma SGS and South Korea's Shinhyup Electronics, a prominent player in the electronics supply chain. The unit has received a crucial approval from the Government of India under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for electronics component manufacturing.
Scale, Capacity, and Product Range
The facility is designed to be a large-scale, fully integrated operation. Spread across 27 acres, it will boast an annual production capacity of 2.5 million square meters of multi-layer PCBs. According to Syrma SGS Managing Director J S Gujral, the plant will manufacture the complete spectrum of printed circuit boards. This includes both single-layer and multi-layer variants, catering to diverse needs within the electronics industry.
An important feature of this facility will be its in-house copper clad laminate manufacturing capacity. This vertical integration is key to controlling quality and supply chain efficiency. The investment will be deployed in phases, with the entire project expected to be fully completed by the year 2030.
Timeline and Impact on Employment
The project is set to progress in distinct stages. The first phase is slated to begin commercial operations by April 2027. Upon completion, the new manufacturing hub is projected to generate substantial employment opportunities, creating around 1,000 jobs in the region. This aligns with the broader national objectives of the PLI scheme to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities and boost job creation in the high-tech sector.
This move by Syrma SGS underscores a growing trend of strengthening India's Electronics Systems Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) ecosystem. By setting up advanced PCB production locally, the company aims to reduce import dependence and serve the burgeoning demand from sectors like consumer electronics, automotive, telecommunications, and industrial manufacturing within the country.
