Uttar Pradesh could soon host a major international technology park led by the Taiwan Electrical & Electronic Manufacturers' Association (Teema). The Uttar Pradesh Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) region is now a frontrunner for this proposed Indian facility, according to sources familiar with the ongoing discussions.
Strategic Location Near Foxconn's Facility
The proposed technology park is likely to be established in the Yeida area, strategically positioned close to the upcoming outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility of Foxconn. The park's blueprint has been specifically designed to be adjacent to a Foxconn campus. This move is part of a clear strategy to establish advanced smart manufacturing hubs in key global locations, effectively exporting Taiwan's highly successful technology park model.
The initiative is being spearheaded by Foxconn's Chairman, Young Liu, who also leads Teema. This Indian project is a component of a broader first-phase global plan that also includes the United States, Mexico, and Poland. While Yeida is a strong contender, Teema is reportedly in talks with several other Indian states as it evaluates all potential locations for the park.
Building a Global, Sustainable Manufacturing Network
The core objective of the project is to develop an artificial intelligence-integrated and ESG-focused global manufacturing network. The project is being led by V Lee, the former India head of Foxconn. The overarching aim is to enhance the global competitiveness of Taiwanese companies while accelerating the international expansion of Taiwan's critical electronics supply chain.
Foxconn is collaborating on this ambitious venture with CTCI, a prominent Taiwanese engineering, procurement, and construction company. The initiative seeks to merge Foxconn's deep expertise in high-tech manufacturing and supply chain management with CTCI's proven strength in executing large-scale engineering turnkey projects. The goal is to create internationally competitive and sustainable industrial clusters outside Taiwan.
A Response to Global Supply Chain Shifts
This global technology park strategy was formally announced on November 21. Foxconn and Teema stated their joint intention to develop these manufacturing hubs across the four identified nations. The drive behind this expansion is the ongoing restructuring of global supply chains and an increased focus on local manufacturing worldwide. These trends are pushing Taiwanese companies to secure overseas production and transshipment hubs to maintain export flexibility and a competitive edge.
The project also aims to foster industrial internationalisation by enabling small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to integrate into global supply chains. This will be facilitated through the overseas expansion and technological prowess of larger corporations like Foxconn. The plan encourages large Taiwanese firms to guide smaller players in constructing supply chains abroad, thereby reducing trade barriers and supporting collective international growth.
In April, an ET report indicated that Foxconn was evaluating approximately 300 acres along the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida for its first North Indian manufacturing plant. This site was near the land acquired by the HCL-Foxconn joint venture for an OSAT facility, though those plans were later paused. While the current status of Foxconn's North India project is unclear, Yeida's appeal is bolstered by its proximity to the upcoming Jewar International Airport. This location offers Taiwanese companies, which are predominantly based in South India, a strategic gateway to expand into a new and promising region.
