Tata Sierra SUV Plunges into Construction Pit During Test Drive in Thane, Three Injured
A Tata Sierra SUV met with a dramatic accident during a test drive near Panchpakhadi in Thane (West), falling into a deep construction pit after the driver lost control of the vehicle. The incident, which occurred when the SUV was taken out from a nearby showroom, resulted in injuries to three people, including the driver, a relative, and a dealership employee.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Crash
According to reports, the SUV was being driven by a woman who lost control on the road. The vehicle first collided with three parked vehicles—an auto rickshaw and two motorcycles—before veering towards a nearby construction site. It then broke through barricades placed around the site and plunged into the pit from an estimated height of around 20 feet.
Rescue and Response Efforts
Rescue teams from the Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell swiftly reached the spot and extricated the occupants from the vehicle. The injured were subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have indicated that they will examine the circumstances that led to the accident to determine the exact cause.
Safety Features and Structural Integrity
The SUV’s airbags deployed during the crash, providing crucial protection to the occupants. Observations at the scene suggested that the vehicle's high-strength steel construction helped it retain its shape after the fall, with the cabin area showing minimal deformation. This structural resilience likely contributed to limiting the severity of injuries.
