In a move that has sent waves of excitement across the Indian automotive sector, Tata Motors has officially launched the highly anticipated Tata Sierra SUV. This marks the grand return of an iconic nameplate that was once the ruler of Indian roads before being discontinued back in 2003.
A New Chapter for an Iconic Name
The new Tata Sierra is not merely a refresh; it is a bold, modern reimagination of a classic. The company has announced that the SUV will be available with a starting price of Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom). For eager customers, the booking process, both online and at dealerships, will commence on December 16, 2025. The first set of deliveries is scheduled to begin from January 15, 2026.
Tata Motors is offering the Sierra in a wide range of seven variants to cater to different preferences: Smart Plus, Pure, Pure Plus, Adventure, Adventure Plus, and Accomplished. Buyers can also personalize their SUV with six vibrant colour options: Bengal Rouge (Red), Andaman Adventure (Yellow), Coorg Clouds (Silver), Munnar Mist (Green), Mintal Grey, and Pristine White. There is also strong speculation about a stealthy Dark Edition variant arriving soon.
Powertrain and Exterior Design
Under the hood, the 2025 Sierra offers a versatile choice of three engine options. For diesel enthusiasts, there is a 1.5-litre Kryotec turbo diesel engine that generates 118 hp and 280 Nm of torque. On the petrol front, customers can choose between a newly developed 1.5-litre NA petrol engine with 106 hp and 145 Nm, or a more powerful 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo petrol that churns out an impressive 160 hp and 260 Nm of torque. Tata Motors has also confirmed that an AWD (All-Wheel Drive) model will be introduced in the near future.
The design of the new Sierra masterfully blends nostalgia with contemporary aesthetics. The front fascia is dominated by a connected LED light bar, a textured grille, and lower-set main LED headlamps, complemented by vertically stacked fog lamps. The most distinctive feature, the signature Alpine window, has been retained but reinterpreted with a partially blacked-out B-pillar and a contrasting black roof, creating a sleek floating-roof effect. At the rear, the boxy and upright stance is preserved with a connected taillight and a higher-set bumper.
A Tech-Laden and Feature-Rich Cabin
Step inside, and the Sierra reveals a cabin that is both familiar and futuristic. While it takes inspiration from other Tata models, it stands out with its groundbreaking triple-screen layout spanning the dashboard. This includes a dedicated digital instrument cluster for the driver and a pair of infotainment screens that can seamlessly share functions.
The feature list is exceptionally comprehensive. It includes the latest iRA connected car technology with a Snapdragon chip and 5G connectivity, Over-The-Air (OTA) updates, a 12.3-inch passenger display, a 10.5-inch centre screen, and a 12-speaker JBL sound system with Dolby Atmos. For safety and convenience, it is packed with Level 2 ADAS, six airbags, front parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, ventilated and powered front seats with memory function, a powered tailgate with gesture control, and a panoramic sunroof.
The return of the Tata Sierra is a significant event, merging a beloved legacy with cutting-edge technology and robust performance, setting a new benchmark in the competitive Indian SUV market.
