Telangana Government Shifts Focus to Social Infrastructure at Kakatiya Mega Textile Park
In a strategic move to unlock investments and accelerate industrial growth, the Telangana government has shifted its focus toward strengthening social infrastructure at the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP) in Warangal. This initiative comes as over 320 acres of land remain unallotted within the sprawling industrial zone, prompting authorities to address critical gaps that have hindered progress.
Addressing Infrastructure Gaps to Attract Investors
Officials have identified that earlier high land costs and deficiencies in facilities significantly slowed allotments at the textile park. To make the park more attractive to industry players, the government, through the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC), is now planning comprehensive development over the next two to three years. This includes the creation of a fully-equipped township featuring shopping complexes, hospitals, and schools specifically designed for employees working at KMTP.
Industry representatives have consistently highlighted the urgent need for improved accommodation and hospitality services within close proximity to the park. Currently, company representatives and visitors often stay in Warangal city, which is approximately 20 kilometers away, creating logistical challenges and reducing operational efficiency.
Prioritizing Connectivity and Housing Solutions
Two critical issues—connectivity and housing—are now being prioritized by state authorities. The government is actively encouraging private players to establish star-rated hotels within the KMTP premises to provide convenient lodging options for business travelers and executives. This move aims to eliminate the current dependency on distant accommodations and enhance the overall business environment.
Air connectivity represents another significant concern for potential investors. Efforts are underway to expedite the development of the Warangal airport through coordinated actions with the central government and the Airports Authority of India. A senior KMTP official emphasized the importance of this development, noting that the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad is located 190 kilometers from the textile park, requiring approximately three hours of travel time.
"Some companies, such as Youngone Corporation, have owners who travel via private jets. Even for general industrialists, having an airport nearby is essential for business operations and accessibility," the official stated, underscoring the logistical challenges posed by the current distance to Hyderabad's airport.
Competitive Pricing and Government Directives
The Telangana government has also taken decisive steps to address pricing concerns that previously deterred investors. Land rates at KMTP have been substantially reduced from 92 lakh per acre to 53 lakh per acre. This strategic price adjustment is designed to maintain competitiveness with other Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) parks across the country and attract a broader range of investors to the region.
During a recent review meeting, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed authorities to fast-track social infrastructure development, identifying it as a key gap that must be addressed to realize the park's full potential. K. Shashanka, Managing Director of TGIIC, confirmed the government's commitment, stating, "The government is keen on developing required infrastructure in the textile parks in the next few years, including star hotels, a road over bridge, and logistic infrastructure."
Employment Projections and Future Outlook
Currently, around 2,000 people are employed at the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park. With the anticipated improvements in infrastructure and increased investor interest, projections indicate that employment could rise significantly to approximately 25,000 jobs in the coming years. This growth would not only boost the local economy but also position Warangal as a major hub for textile manufacturing and related industries in Telangana.
The comprehensive approach to developing social infrastructure—encompassing housing, education, healthcare, hospitality, and transportation—demonstrates the state government's proactive strategy to transform KMTP into a world-class industrial destination. By addressing both physical and logistical barriers, authorities aim to create an ecosystem that supports sustainable industrial growth and attracts diverse investments to the region.
