Telangana Government Unveils Comprehensive Master Plan for Bharat Future City
The Telangana government has officially announced detailed plans for the ambitious Bharat Future City, a massive urban development project spanning 30,000 acres near Hyderabad. According to the state's socio-economic survey for 2026, this futuristic city is designed to accommodate approximately 25 to 30 lakh (2.5 to 3 million) residents upon completion, positioning it as a major population center in the region.
Strategic Zones and Infrastructure Development
The master plan outlines a central business district (CBD) supported by four catalytic zones, each focusing on key economic sectors. These include a dedicated Artificial Intelligence city covering 300 acres, a health city across 200 acres, an education hub spanning over 500 acres, and a life sciences hub extending approximately 3,000 acres. All zones will be equipped with advanced district cooling systems and modern urban services to ensure efficiency and sustainability.
In the budget presentation for 2025–26, the government emphasized that infrastructure development is already underway. This includes the construction of radial roads, a greenfield national highway directly connecting Bharat Future City to the Machilipatnam port in Andhra Pradesh, underground power systems, and eco-friendly smart grids. These initiatives aim to establish the city as a model of sustainable development.
Entertainment, Environment, and Mobility
The project also features a dedicated entertainment district with large-format sports, recreation, and tourism facilities. Adjacent to this will be the Rajiv Zoological Park, bordering a 15,000-acre reserve forest to reinforce environmental balance and promote biodiversity.
Given the expected population, a comprehensive mobility plan is being prepared to address transportation needs. This plan incorporates:
- An integrated trunk road network
- Multimodal public transport systems
- Metro connectivity
- Transit-oriented development (TOD) to reduce travel demand
The socio-economic survey notes that the plan is based on the principles of "work, live, learn, play" and the 15-minute city concept, ensuring accessibility and convenience for residents.
Global Ambitions and Skill Development
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka stated in his budget speech, "Once the construction of this future city is completed, it will stand alongside international cities and emerge as a global tourist centre. It will also become the first net-zero greenfield smart city." To support this vision, a skill university has been established within the city to create a workforce aligned with international standards.
In December 2025, the government held a global summit to attract national and international stakeholders, highlighting the project's significance and potential for investment and collaboration. The Bharat Future City represents a strategic effort by Telangana to drive economic growth, innovation, and sustainable urban living on a global scale.
