Tesla opens Gurgaon showroom, eyes Haryana for manufacturing

In a significant move for the Indian electric vehicle market, Elon Musk's Tesla officially inaugurated its first integrated showroom and service centre in Gurgaon on Thursday. The swanky new facility, located on the bustling Sohna Road, marks a major expansion for the American automaker in the National Capital Region.

A Grand Launch with Government Backing

The launch event was graced by the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who pledged full support and cooperation to Tesla. The CM used the occasion to extend a formal invitation to the company, expressing his strong belief that Tesla would choose Haryana for its first electric vehicle manufacturing plant in India.

"You will never face any hindrance, there will be constant support, you march ahead," assured CM Saini. "I fully believe Tesla will choose Haryana for its first electric vehicle manufacturing facility in the country, and become part of the motor investment hub that the city is becoming."

Haryana Industries Minister and Badshahpur MLA Rao Narbir Singh also attended, highlighting the environmental benefits of EV adoption. He noted that while a proposal for a 15% subsidy on EVs costing up to ₹40 lakh is in the works, Tesla's current premium models are not covered under this scheme.

More Than Just a Showroom: A Complete Tesla Ecosystem

According to Sharad Agarwal, General Manager of Tesla India, this is not just a retail space but the brand's first "all-in-one Tesla Centre" in the country. The facility seamlessly combines an experience centre for potential buyers, a full-fledged after-sales service hub, a delivery centre for new owners, and a charging station, all under one roof.

"By building charging infrastructure that fits people’s daily lives, we are making electric driving convenient for everyone in India," stated Agarwal. He emphasized that Tesla's direct-to-consumer business model has generated significant excitement for electric mobility in India, driving adoption and building confidence in sustainable transport.

The company is also showcasing its advancements in artificial intelligence, with the Optimus Gen 2 robot now on display at the Gurgaon centre, as well as in its Mumbai and Delhi locations.

Infrastructure and Expansion Plans

The new Tesla centre is housed in a 33,475 sqft ground-floor space at the Orchid Business Park on Sohna Road. The lease agreement, signed on July 28 for a nine-year term with a three-year lock-in, involves a monthly rent of ₹40.17 lakh (₹120 per sq ft) with a 4.75% annual increase. Tesla has secured 51 dedicated parking slots at the location.

For customers, the promise is rapid charging. Tesla's Supercharging technology can add up to 275 km of range to a Model Y in just 15 minutes. Agarwal highlighted the reliability of this "Plug In, Charge and Go" experience, which boasts a 99.95% uptime.

Looking ahead, Tesla has confirmed that Delhi-NCR, along with Mumbai, will be a key focus for its charging infrastructure rollout. The company plans to install four new charging stations in the region: one each in Saket and Aerocity in Delhi, one on Golf Course Road in Gurgaon, and another in Noida. These stations are expected to feature a total of 16 superchargers and 15 destination chargers.

The company has announced that customers placing orders now can expect to take delivery of their vehicles by the end of the year, signaling a firm commitment to establishing a strong foothold in the Indian automotive landscape.
