Toyota Kirloskar Motor has unveiled plans to establish a new vehicle manufacturing facility in India. The upcoming plant will be situated in the Bidkin Industrial Area of Maharashtra and is slated to commence operations during the first half of 2029.
Production Capacity and Job Creation
The new facility is designed with an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles. At the onset of production, it is expected to generate approximately 2,800 employment opportunities. Toyota has confirmed that the plant will manufacture a new SUV and will oversee critical production processes such as stamping, welding, painting, and assembly.
Strategic Importance
According to the company, this manufacturing hub is part of a broader strategy to strengthen its long-term business operations in India while simultaneously catering to demand from neighboring international markets. This expansion underscores Toyota's commitment to the Indian automotive sector.
Existing Manufacturing Footprint
Currently, Toyota Kirloskar Motor operates two manufacturing plants in Bidadi, Karnataka. The first plant, established in October 1997 with production commencing in December 1999, produces models including the Toyota Innova HyCross, Toyota Innova Crysta, Toyota Fortuner, and Toyota Legender. This facility has an installed production capacity of up to 132,000 units annually.
The second plant began production in December 2010 and currently manufactures models such as the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Toyota Hilux. It boasts an annual production capacity of up to 210,000 units. Combined, Toyota Kirloskar Motor's existing facilities have a total installed production capacity of up to 342,000 units per year.
