Trichy Junction to Get Six New Escalators by End of June

Trichy: Trichy Junction railway station is set to receive six new escalators by the end of this month, as announced by Balak Ram Negi, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Trichy division, on Friday. The DRM was addressing reporters to highlight the eight shields and awards won by the division and its employees during the 71st Railway Week Celebrations of Southern Railway, recently held in Chennai.

Escalator Installation Details

“Six additional escalators were installed at Trichy Junction and will be commissioned by the end of June. Four escalators at Thanjavur junction and two at Villupuram junction will be commissioned by the end of the financial year. We will consider deploying workers to sensitize passengers in using the infrastructure appropriately,” Negi said.

Plans for Train Speed and Safety

The DRM stated that efforts are underway to increase the operational speed of trains between Trichy and Villupuram junctions before March 2027. Progress is being made to fence the tracks along the stretch, he added.

Negi also mentioned that as part of the division’s efforts to enhance safety at railway level crossings, the Automatic PN Number Generation (APNG) system has been implemented at all 139 non-interlocked level crossing (NI-LC) gates in the division. The APNG generates a private number (PN) only after sensors confirm that the level crossing gates are fully closed, ensuring a verification mechanism before train operations. The generated PN is exchanged with the station master prior to train dispatch, reducing the possibility of human error, he added.

Awards and Recognition

Meanwhile, Trichy division bagged the runner-up shield for the GM’s inter-divisional overall efficiency shield and won seven winner shields for achieving the highest efficiency in mechanical, medical, personnel, planning (work study) departments, best training institute (Ponmalai), best divisional store, and the best kept railway station (Trichy Junction). Four officers and 11 staff members of the division were awarded for their meritorious work.
