Kota: Two railway engineers lost their lives after a portion of an under-construction underpass collapsed on National Highway 52 near Dara Ghati in Kota district on Thursday evening. The deceased have been identified as junior engineer Prabhat Singh and senior section engineer Sanjay Jha.
Details of the Incident
According to Railway Public Relations Officer (PRO) Ravindra Lakhara, the accident occurred around 8 pm when a section of earth caved in during block-fixing work at the under-construction underpass. Both engineers sustained critical injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital within minutes. However, doctors declared them brought dead upon arrival.
No labourers are believed to be trapped under the debris, Lakhara confirmed. The bodies were shifted to the mortuary on Friday for postmortem examination.
Response and Investigation
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause of the collapse. The underpass was part of a railway infrastructure project aimed at improving traffic flow on the busy NH-52 corridor. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
