The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has taken decisive action against environmental violations by sealing a tannery located in the Dahi industrial area of Unnao district. This enforcement occurred on Thursday following confirmed reports of the facility discharging contaminated water and emitting a persistent foul odour, which significantly impacted the local environment.
Details of the Violations and Enforcement
The tannery, operating at UPSIIDC 15 Leather Complex in Dahi Chowki Side 2, was found to be in blatant non-compliance with established pollution control regulations. Investigations revealed that the operators were releasing water containing harmful chemicals into the surroundings, alongside generating noxious smells that affected the area. District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi initiated a thorough probe into these allegations, which conclusively confirmed the violations of pollution norms.
Upon verification, the District Magistrate issued formal closure orders, leading to immediate enforcement by UPPCB authorities. A team under the leadership of Regional Officer Shashi Bindkar executed the sealing of the tannery, effectively shutting down its operations. Simultaneously, a separate team from the electricity department disconnected the power supply to the premises. This dual action was strategically implemented to prevent any clandestine or unauthorized activities from continuing at the site, ensuring complete cessation of the polluting practices.
