VOC Port Authority Signs Historic MOUs to Boost Green Fuels & Port-Led Industrialisation in Tamil Nadu
VOC Port Signs ₹58K Cr MOUs for Green Energy Hub

In a landmark move that promises to reshape Tamil Nadu's industrial landscape, the V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port Authority has signed multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with leading industry players, marking a significant leap toward sustainable industrial growth and port-led development.

Strategic Partnerships for Green Energy Revolution

The port authority has forged a groundbreaking alliance with ACME Cleantech Solutions Pvt Ltd for establishing a comprehensive green fuels facility. This ambitious project involves developing production, storage, and bunkering infrastructure for green ammonia and green methanol at an estimated investment of ₹52,671 crore.

"This partnership represents a quantum leap in India's green energy transition," stated T.K. Ramachandran, IAS, Chairman of VOC Port Authority. "By creating end-to-end green fuel infrastructure, we're positioning Tamil Nadu as a global hub for sustainable energy solutions."

Boosting Port-Led Industrialisation

In another significant development, the port authority has partnered with IMC Limited to develop a multi-product industrial park spanning 1,000 acres. This ₹5,000 crore project aims to create a world-class industrial ecosystem that leverages the port's strategic location and connectivity.

The industrial park will feature:

  • State-of-the-art manufacturing facilities
  • Advanced logistics infrastructure
  • Export-oriented processing zones
  • Integrated supply chain solutions

Transforming Regional Economy

These strategic initiatives align with the Government of India's Sagarmala programme, focusing on port-led industrialization that creates employment opportunities and stimulates economic growth across the region.

"The cumulative investment of nearly ₹58,000 crore will generate approximately 30,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing a massive boost to the local economy while positioning India as a leader in green fuel production," Ramachandran emphasized during the signing ceremony.

Future-Ready Infrastructure

The partnerships underscore VOC Port Authority's commitment to developing future-ready infrastructure that supports India's net-zero emissions targets while enhancing industrial competitiveness. The green fuels facility, in particular, addresses the growing global demand for sustainable maritime fuels and positions India at the forefront of the clean energy transition.

These developments mark a significant milestone in Tamil Nadu's industrial journey, combining sustainable energy initiatives with robust industrial infrastructure to create a model for port-led development that other Indian states can emulate.
