Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Spied Testing in India Ahead of 2026 Launch
Volkswagen India is gearing up to introduce the refreshed Taigun SUV in the Indian market, with recent spy shots confirming the vehicle undergoing testing on local roads. This move comes shortly after its sibling, the Skoda Kushaq facelift, was revealed and is scheduled for launch by the end of February 2026. The Taigun facelift is expected to debut soon, aiming to maintain its competitiveness in the highly contested compact SUV segment.
Exterior Design Updates
Although the spied vehicle is heavily camouflaged, obscuring precise details, the overall silhouette is anticipated to remain largely unchanged. Key updates are projected at the front and rear, including a redesigned bumper, a new grille, and sleeker headlights with updated daytime running light (DRL) signatures. In profile, changes are likely to be subtle, with newly designed alloy wheels serving as the primary visual enhancement. At the rear, expect a revised bumper, a redesigned tailgate, and connected LED tail lamps, giving the SUV a more modern and aggressive appearance.
Interior and Feature Enhancements
Inside the cabin, the overall layout is expected to stay similar, but with several notable additions and refinements. Potential features include a panoramic sunroof, a rear-seat massage function, a fully digital instrument cluster, and AI-based integration for the infotainment system. Other anticipated amenities are wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, a six-speaker sound system with subwoofer and amplifier, automatic climate control, leatherette seats, and electrically adjustable front seats with ventilation.
Safety and Performance Upgrades
Safety is set to be a strong focus, with expected features such as six airbags, ABS, EBD, traction control, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, all-wheel disc brakes, rain-sensing wipers, a defogger, and an auto-dimming interior rearview mirror. Under the hood, Volkswagen is likely to introduce a new 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission for the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, replacing the previous 6-speed unit. This upgrade aims to improve fuel efficiency, deliver smoother shifts, and reduce fuel loss during acceleration and deceleration. The 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine produces 115 horsepower and 175 Nm of torque, while the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbo petrol variant offers 150 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, with a 7-speed DSG gearbox expected for the latter.
Built on the same MQB-A0-IN platform as the Skoda Kushaq, the Taigun facelift is poised to incorporate many of the updates seen in its sibling, ensuring it remains a formidable contender in India's dynamic automotive landscape.
