Ahmedabad's VVIP Road to Extend 6km for Sanand Semiconductor Hub
VVIP Road Extension for Sanand Semiconductor Project

The ambitious Sanand semiconductor project is driving significant infrastructure development in Ahmedabad, with authorities proposing a major extension of the VVIP road network to accommodate the growing needs of the industrial hub.

Road Expansion for Semiconductor Ambitions

The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) has initiated plans to extend the VVIP road by 6 kilometers from Sanskardham to Sanand town. This crucial infrastructure development comes as the state government allocates land for establishing the semiconductor facility in the Sanand GIDC area.

Authorities have already transformed the existing VVIP road from SP Ring Road to Sanskardham into a six-lane passageway. However, the semiconductor project's requirements have necessitated this further extension, which will eventually become an eight-lane corridor connecting Sanskardham in the Manipur-Godhavi area to Sanand town.

Comprehensive Development Plan

A draft town planning scheme covering 86 hectares of land surrounding Sanand GIDC is currently in preparation. This extensive planning exercise aims to boost the development of domestic semiconductor and electronics supply chains while creating supporting infrastructure.

The land in Bol village has been specifically selected for this draft TP scheme, which envisions comprehensive development including:

  • Industrial development zones
  • International standard educational institutions
  • Multi-specialty healthcare facilities
  • Luxury hospitality infrastructure
  • Modern shopping complexes
  • Recreational parks and green spaces

Auda has already floated a tender for appointing a consultant to develop the road extension project. Once the consultant is finalized, a detailed project report will be created to guide the implementation process.

Sports Infrastructure and Global Events

The infrastructure push extends beyond industrial needs, with the Manipur-Godhavi area slated to host the South West Ahmedabad Sports Arena (SWASA). This development gains significance as Ahmedabad prepares to host major international sporting events.

An Auda official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that Ahmedabad has been chosen to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030, with preparations also underway for the city to potentially host the 2036 Olympics.

The planning is complete to construct the important sports arena for the Commonwealth and Olympic events in the Manipur-Godhavi area, the official stated, highlighting the strategic importance of the VVIP road corridor.

The existing six-lane VVIP road from Mumadpura on SP Ring Road, via Shela, to Sanskardham forms the central artery for this international sports hub. However, the semiconductor project's requirements have prompted authorities to upgrade this six-lane road to an eight-lane corridor in the second phase of infrastructure development.

Auda has commenced preparations for industrial development in lands around Sanand city and the GIDC area to comprehensively support the semiconductor project, marking one of Gujarat's most significant industrial infrastructure initiatives in recent years.
