WB CM Adhikari Meets L&T CMD at Kolkata Airport

Kolkata: Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari met with S N Subrahmanyam, chairman and managing director of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), at Kolkata airport on Saturday. The meeting comes just days after Adhikari held talks with Adani Ports Managing Director Karan Adani, highlighting the state government's intensified efforts to attract fresh investments and accelerate infrastructure development.

Focus on Industrial Resurgence

In a post on X, Adhikari stated: "I had the opportunity to hold a productive and insightful meeting with Shri S N Subrahmanyam Ji, chairman and managing director of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), at Kolkata airport. During our 30-minute discussion, we focused extensively on the industrial resurgence of West Bengal." He elaborated that they exchanged ideas on creating a robust ecosystem for industrial development, attracting mega investments, and accelerating economic growth to generate meaningful employment opportunities for the state's youth.

Adhikari added: "West Bengal has immense potential, and strategic collaborations with industrial leaders can play a pivotal role in transforming the state's economic landscape."

L&T's Existing Presence and New Projects

L&T already has a footprint in the state's information technology sector through LTIMindtree, which invested in Kolkata during the previous Trinamool government. The company is among the major players in India's technology and engineering sectors.

In January this year, L&T was awarded the contract for constructing a nearly 5-kilometer-long bridge over the Muriganga River to connect Sagar Island with Kakdwip. The Rs 1,670-crore bridge, named Gangasagar Setu, will provide all-weather road connectivity to Sagar Island, where the annual Gangasagar Mela is held.

"During the CM's meeting with the L&T CMD, the proposed bridge over the Muriganga also figured prominently. The project is considered crucial for improving connectivity to Sagar Island and has long been viewed as a significant infrastructure initiative for the region," a source said, adding that the talks also focused on potential investment opportunities and key infrastructure projects.

This meeting underscores the state government's proactive approach to engaging with industrial leaders to drive economic transformation in West Bengal.
