Tragic Wall Collapse Claims Life of Young Worker in Bhosari
A devastating industrial accident in Pune's Bhosari area resulted in the death of a 32-year-old worker on Saturday evening. The incident occurred when a boundary wall suddenly gave way, trapping the labourer under a massive pile of debris.
The deceased has been identified as Maruti Raghoji Bhalerao, a resident of Chakan. The fatal collapse took place around 4:30 PM at the J Block of the MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) complex in Bhosari.
Search, Rescue, and Tragic Outcome
Following the collapse, an immediate alarm was raised, prompting a swift response from emergency services. Personnel from the Pimpri Chinchwad fire brigade rushed to the scene and conducted an intensive search and rescue operation.
After nearly two hours of efforts, the rescue team located Bhalerao. He was found motionless under the heavy rubble. The workers swiftly extracted him and rushed him to the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Despite all efforts, doctors at the hospital declared him dead upon arrival. The collapse of the 24-foot-high wall proved fatal.
How the Bhosari MIDC Incident Unfolded
Assistant Inspector Kiran Pathare of the MIDC Bhosari police station provided crucial details about the sequence of events. According to the police official, Bhalerao was working near a wall that was shared by two separate companies.
Both companies are involved in metal processing activities. One unit is situated on a relatively higher plot of land, while the other is on lower ground. The company on the lower side had undertaken land levelling work for its development project.
"The victim was one of the only two workers present at the site. The other was an earth mover operator, who is safe," stated Inspector Pathare. "The earth mover operator raised the alarm immediately after the wall caved in and Bhalerao got trapped under the debris."
Contractor Sought as Investigation Continues
The police investigation has revealed that the two workers were employed by the company through a third-party labour contractor. Authorities have confirmed that they are actively searching for this contractor as part of their ongoing probe into the circumstances leading to the tragic wall collapse.
This incident has once again highlighted critical safety concerns at industrial sites, particularly regarding structural integrity and contractor accountability. The MIDC Bhosari police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the wall's failure and to ascertain if any safety protocols were violated.
