GPSC Updates Recruitment for Key Government Positions

Gujarat Public Service Commission Announces Major Recruitment Updates

The Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) has issued a series of significant announcements this week regarding ongoing recruitment processes for several crucial government positions within the state. These updates impact vacancies for Veterinary Officer, Assistant Engineer (Electrical), and Town Planner roles, reflecting administrative adjustments and procedural advancements in the hiring framework.

Veterinary Officer Recruitment Reopened with Revised Rules

In a notable development, the GPSC has reopened the recruitment advertisement for 70 posts of Veterinary Officer, Class-II, under the Department of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Co-operation. This decision follows amendments to the recruitment rules, which were officially modified through a government notification dated March 5, 2026.

The key change involves the requirement for registration with the Gujarat Veterinary Council or the Veterinary Council of India. Previously, candidates needed to be registered at the time of application. However, under the revised provision, applicants appointed through direct recruitment must obtain registration with the statutory councils under the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984, at the time of appointment if they are not already registered.

To accommodate fresh candidates under this updated eligibility condition, the online application window has been reopened. It will remain accessible from March 12, 2026, starting at 1 pm, until March 19, 2026, until 11:59 pm. Candidates who had previously submitted their applications are not required to reapply. Additionally, the preliminary examination originally scheduled for April 5, 2026, has been postponed indefinitely, with a revised date to be announced in due course.

Final Answer Key Released for Assistant Engineer Preliminary Exam

The commission has also released the final answer key for the preliminary examination conducted for recruitment to 139 posts of Assistant Engineer (Electrical), Class-2, in the Roads and Buildings Department. This examination was held on October 5, 2025, under Advertisement No. 10/2025-26, and comprised a total of 300 marks. The test included Part-A, focusing on General Studies with 100 marks, and Part-B, covering the concerned subject with 200 marks.

Earlier, the GPSC published a provisional answer key on October 15, 2025, and invited objections from candidates. After a thorough review of the representations received, the commission has now issued the final answer key, enabling candidates to estimate their scores more accurately. Those who qualify in the preliminary stage will be called for a 100-mark interview. The final merit list will be determined by giving equal weightage of 50 percent each to the preliminary examination and the interview.

Eligibility List Announced for Town Planner Interviews

Furthermore, the GPSC has published the eligibility list of candidates shortlisted for interviews for the Town Planner, Class-1 recruitment under the Urban Development and Urban Housing Department. A total of 58 candidates have been shortlisted for interviews against 12 posts under Advertisement No. 06/2025-26. The interviews are scheduled to be conducted on March 10, 2026, at the GPSC office in Gandhinagar.

Candidates have been advised to verify their eligibility as per the conditions outlined in the original advertisement. This recruitment initiative is part of the state government's broader efforts to strengthen professional capacity in urban planning, as Gujarat continues to experience rapid urban development and expansion.

Implications and Next Steps

These updates from the GPSC underscore the commission's commitment to transparent and efficient recruitment processes. The amendments to the Veterinary Officer rules aim to streamline eligibility criteria, while the release of the final answer key for the Assistant Engineer exam enhances transparency in evaluation. The Town Planner recruitment highlights the state's focus on bolstering urban infrastructure and planning expertise.

Aspiring candidates are encouraged to stay informed through official GPSC channels for further announcements and deadlines. The commission's proactive measures are expected to facilitate a smoother hiring process, ensuring that qualified professionals are recruited to support Gujarat's administrative and developmental goals.
