Bengaluru's pioneering double-decker flyover, connecting Central Silk Board and Ragigudda, is poised to achieve full operational status by March 2026. Final Stretch to Open by February
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has outlined plans to complete the remaining section of the flyover—spanning from the HSR Layout side to BTM Layout—by February 2026. Once construction is finalized, the elevated road will be opened to the public following necessary coordination with traffic police authorities to ensure a smooth transition.
Construction Progress and Current Status
All steel girders across the Silk Board flyover have been successfully launched, marking a crucial phase in the construction process. Currently, deck slab casting, finishing work, and allied construction activities are actively underway to prepare the stretch for traffic. This progress follows years of delays that pushed the original deadline from December 2025 due to design changes, traffic police approvals, and complex girder-launching operations.
Partial Opening and Historical Context
In July 2024, BMRCL opened the Ragigudda-to-Silk Board stretch of the double-decker flyover, covering approximately 5 kilometers. However, the opposite carriageway remained closed due to ongoing construction and clearance delays. The project, which began in 2019, faced prolonged setbacks, leading to an unusual interim use where residents famously utilized the incomplete elevated stretch for jogging and morning walks.
Expected Benefits for Commuters
Once fully operational, the new stretch is anticipated to provide major relief for motorists traveling from HSR Layout towards BTM Layout via the down ramp, as well as those heading from HSR Layout to Ragigudda on the elevated road. This is expected to significantly reduce travel times and congestion in these key corridors.
Integration with Metro Project and Traffic Impact
The double-decker flyover is an integral component of the Yellow Line Metro project. To facilitate its construction, the Jayadeva flyover was demolished, paving the way for an interchange Metro station at the junction. While the full commissioning is expected to further smoothen traffic flow, officials have clarified that not all traffic will bypass the junction—vehicles moving from Hosur Road towards HSR Layout and those heading from HSR Layout to Madiwala will still need to pass through the Silk Board junction.
Traffic Congestion Outlook
Traffic police reports indicate that congestion beneath the Silk Board flyover has already decreased following the partial opening. The full commissioning is projected to enhance traffic flow further, although signals at the junction will remain in place to manage ongoing vehicular movement.
