The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) introduced a seventh train on the Yellow Line of Namma Metro on Thursday. This launch coincided with the harvest festival of Makar Sankranti. The addition brings significant improvements to service frequency for commuters.
Enhanced Peak-Hour Services
With the new train, peak-hour frequency on the Yellow Line has improved from 13 minutes to 10 minutes on weekdays. On Sundays, the peak-hour interval reduces slightly from 15 minutes to 14 minutes. BMRCL confirmed these changes in a recent announcement.
The corporation stated that Metro services on the Yellow Line will now offer greater convenience during busy hours. First and last train timings from terminal stations RV Road and Bommasandra remain unchanged on all days.
Recent Expansions on the Yellow Line
This marks the third train addition to the Yellow Line in recent months. BMRCL added a sixth train on December 23, 2025, which reduced weekday frequency from 15 to 13 minutes. A fifth train joined the fleet on November 1, 2025, cutting the headway from 19 minutes to 15 minutes.
The Yellow Line services officially opened on August 10, 2025, with three train sets. A traffic police study last year found that the line reduced regional congestion by 37 percent. It serves Electronic City, a major IT hub in Southeast Bengaluru.
Current Network and Future Plans
At present, 96.1 kilometers of the Bengaluru Metro network is operational. Long-term plans aim to expand this to 317 kilometers. In 2026, the operational length is expected to increase by 41.01 kilometers to 137.11 kilometers with the opening of Pink Line sections.
Upcoming Metro Expansions
Several key projects are slated for completion in the coming years:
