Chandel-Hasapur Bridge in Pernem Nears Completion, April Launch Expected
Residents of Pernem in Goa can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The long-awaited Chandel-Hasapur bridge is on track to become fully operational by April. This new structure will replace a 32-year-old dilapidated bridge that has posed significant risks to commuters for years.
A Rs 20 Crore Project to Enhance Safety and Connectivity
The bridge project, constructed at a cost of Rs 20 crore, represents a major upgrade for the area. Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar recently inspected the site alongside PWD officials and panchayat members. He confirmed that work is progressing rapidly on a war footing to meet the April deadline.
Arlekar emphasized the bridge's importance for local safety. For decades, locals had to travel with their lives in their hands, he stated. This bridge will not only ensure safe passage but also provide a critical link for the entire Chandel-Hasapur area.
Steel Design and Modern Traffic Handling
The new bridge features a steel design, making it one of only a few such structures in Goa. This modern approach allows it to handle contemporary traffic loads effectively. Key aspects of the project include:
- Replacement of the old, unsafe bridge with a robust steel framework.
- Enhanced capacity to support current and future vehicular traffic.
- Improved durability and longevity compared to the previous structure.
During the final stages of construction, traffic has been temporarily diverted. Officials have received strict instructions to minimize inconvenience for commuters. This careful planning aims to ensure a smooth transition once the bridge opens.
Local communities have long awaited this development. The old bridge's poor condition forced many to take risky journeys daily. Now, with the new bridge nearly ready, safer and more reliable travel is within reach. The April commissioning marks a significant milestone for Pernem's infrastructure and public welfare.
