In a decisive crackdown on illegal construction, the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (Glada) sealed five unauthorized buildings in Threke village on Thursday. The action was taken on the direct directions of Punjab's Housing and Urban Development Minister, Hardeep Singh Mundian, and Glada's Chief Administrator, Sandeep Kumar.
Sealing Drive Executed After Defied Notices
The regulatory wing of Glada carried out the sealing operation after the developers involved persistently continued their illegal construction work. Despite receiving prior notices, the builders did not halt their activities, prompting the authority to form a special team for the drive. The team faced no opposition during the enforcement action.
Zero Tolerance Policy and Public Warning
A Glada spokesperson emphasized that the authority is adopting a strict policy of zero tolerance against unauthorized and unplanned development, with a sharp focus on illegal colonies. In a significant follow-up, Glada has also recommended the filing of First Information Reports (FIRs) against the erring developers.
Chief Administrator Sandeep Kumar issued a stern public appeal, urging citizens to avoid purchasing property, plots, or buildings in unauthorized colonies. He clarified that Glada will not provide essential facilities like water supply, sewerage, and electricity connections to such areas. Prospective buyers face significant risks and financial loss.
How to Verify Authorized Colonies
To protect themselves, the public has been advised to verify the legal status of any colony before making a purchase. The complete list of approved and regularized colonies, along with their officially sanctioned maps, is available on the official Glada website. This step is crucial for ensuring a safe and legal investment.
Furthermore, Glada has launched a special drive to take punitive action against individuals who dupe innocent residents by offering cheaper plots in these illegal colonies. These settlements lack statutory sanction and do not comply with government norms, leaving buyers in a precarious situation.
