Nagpur's Khapri Railway Station Set for Major Rs4 Crore Infrastructure Overhaul
The Khapri railway station, situated on the outskirts of Nagpur, is poised to receive a significant infrastructure upgrade, with the Central Railway planning extensive works estimated at approximately Rs4 crore. This long-awaited project aims to address fundamental deficiencies at the station, enhancing passenger safety, comfort, and overall functionality to meet growing commuter demands.
Comprehensive Platform and Structural Enhancements
All three platforms at Khapri station will undergo a complete revamp, along with the neglected rear side of the station, which has seen regular usage but lacked proper maintenance for years. Railway officials emphasize that the project is designed to strengthen core infrastructure and improve basic urban railway facilities, ensuring a more reliable and user-friendly experience for passengers.
Key Components of the Upgrade Project
A dedicated electrical panel room will be constructed as a key component of the upgrade, aimed at improving power management and operational safety. Extensive roofing works will be carried out to enhance passenger sheds, particularly during the monsoon season, providing better shelter from adverse weather conditions.
To combat waterlogging issues, rainwater spouts and pipelines will be installed to ensure proper drainage across platforms and common areas. Platforms and circulation zones will be resurfaced with 60mm paver blocks, offering a more durable and aesthetically pleasing surface for commuters.
Structural and Utility Improvements
Structural steel works, including trusses and framed sections, will be executed using riveted, bolted, or welded systems, complemented by primer coatings to enhance longevity and durability. Reinforced concrete works are planned for beams, suspended floors, roofs, staircases, lintels, and chajjas up to the fifth floor level, ensuring structural stability and safety for all station users.
Water supply infrastructure will also see significant upgrades, with CPVC pipelines suitable for both hot and cold water being installed. These pipelines will feature brass-threaded fittings and secure clamping for enhanced reliability. Additionally, stainless steel inverted conical basins will be installed to improve hygiene and durability in station facilities.
Aligning with Growing Commuter Needs
Railway officials note that the station upgrade is strategically planned in line with the evolving needs of commuters, as surrounding areas continue to develop and urbanize. This proactive approach aims to future-proof the station, making it a more efficient and welcoming hub for the Nagpur region's railway network.
