The Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) is set to expand its footprint in Chamarajanagar with a fourth major residential development. This new project aims to address the escalating demand for housing in the region and is being launched on a public-private partnership model.
New Layout on 24 Acres Near Uttuvalli
KHB has formally initiated the process for its latest venture, a residential layout planned on approximately 24 acres of land near Kasaba and Uttuvalli in Chamarajanagar. To bring this project to life, the board has entered into a memorandum of understanding with a Mysuru-based infrastructure firm. This partnership underscores the KHB's strategy to leverage private sector efficiency for public housing projects.
Assistant Executive Engineer of KHB, MS Mahesh, confirmed the development to the media, stating that the board has decided to build the new layout to cater to the growing needs of the city's residents.
Online Demand Survey and Application Process
The KHB has officially issued a notification, inviting potential applicants to participate in a demand survey for the proposed layout. A key stipulation is that all applications must be submitted exclusively through online mode. The board has also mandated that all payments be made electronically.
The application window is currently open, and the last date for submission is December 31. This survey is a critical step for the KHB to gauge interest and finalize the planning for the new residential area.
Site Categories and Temporary Fee Structure
The new layout will offer residential sites in four distinct categories, designed to accommodate various economic groups:
- Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): Sites measuring 6x9 metres.
- Lower Income Groups (LIG): Sites measuring 9x12 metres.
- Middle Income Groups (MIG): Sites measuring 9x15 metres.
- Higher Income Groups (HIG): Sites measuring 12x18 metres.
A provisional square foot rate of Rs 1,500 has been fixed for the project. Applicants are required to pay a registration fee and a deposit amount online. The fee structure is as follows:
- EWS: Rs 300 registration + Rs 5,000 deposit
- LIG: Rs 500 registration + Rs 10,000 deposit
- MIG: Rs 1,000 registration + Rs 40,000 deposit
- HIG: Rs 1,500 registration + Rs 50,000 deposit
It is important to note that these prices are temporary and subject to finalization.
Building on Past Success in Chamarajanagar
This new project marks the KHB's fourth major residential layout in Chamarajanagar. The board has a proven track record in the city, having already successfully developed and distributed sites and houses in three previous locations. These include layouts at the Old Housing Board Colony near Ramasamudra and another situated near Dr. BR Ambedkar Stadium.
The launch of the Uttuvalli layout signifies the KHB's continued commitment to fostering planned urban development and providing housing opportunities across different income segments in Karnataka's growing urban centers.
