The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has given the green light for the construction of a 100-metre-long skywalk near Lulu Mall on Shaheed Path. This initiative aims to enhance pedestrian safety along one of the city's most congested corridors.
Project Cost and Model
The project is estimated to cost around Rs 18 crore and will be executed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. A private firm will bear the entire expenditure, as confirmed by officials. The proposal received approval during a meeting chaired by LDA vice-chairperson Prathamesh Kumar on Thursday.
Design and Accessibility Features
The skywalk will be five metres wide and will include lifts and staircases to ensure easy access for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and women. The plan was finalized after consultations with the Public Works Department (PWD), traffic police, Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (LESA), and Lulu Mall management.
Green Area and Commercial Spaces
Approximately 1,200 square metres of green area will be developed beneath the skywalk. This space will also feature kiosks, public interaction zones, toilets, and parking facilities. Commercial spaces are proposed on the ground and first floors, while the rooftop is planned to house an open-air restaurant and LED display screens.
Safety and Structural Features
According to LDA officials, the structure will incorporate anti-skid flooring, CCTV surveillance, adequate lighting, fire-safety provisions, and earthquake-resistant features to ensure durability and safety.
