Lucknow Development Authority Takes Action Against Hussainabad Food Court
The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has taken decisive action by sealing the popular Hussainabad food court on Thursday. This move came after an inspection led by vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar uncovered significant financial irregularities in the operations of the facility.
Financial Irregularities Prompt Immediate Closure
The primary reason for the sealing was the failure of the private agency operating the food court to deposit the stipulated lease amount as per their agreement. According to LDA officials, the agency was required to pay approximately Rs 75 lakh annually under the lease conditions. However, records revealed that against total dues amounting to Rs 1.15 crore, the agency had deposited only Rs 22.5 lakh, leaving outstanding dues of nearly Rs 93 lakh.
Following the detection of these financial discrepancies, the LDA issued a formal notice to the agency. When the dues remained unpaid, authorities proceeded to seal the building until all outstanding amounts are cleared. This action has resulted in the complete cessation of all commercial activities within the food court, affecting numerous shops and restaurants operating there.
A Popular Destination with Significant Investment
The Hussainabad food court represents a substantial investment by the Lucknow Development Authority, having been constructed at a cost of Rs 10 crore. The facility features six shops on the ground floor and two large restaurants on the first floor, creating a comprehensive dining and entertainment space for visitors.
In December 2024, the LDA leased the food court to a private company for operation and maintenance. After its launch in early 2025, the establishment quickly gained popularity among both locals and tourists, becoming a favored hangout spot in the city. Its strategic location near the heritage corridor and the iconic Clock Tower contributed significantly to its substantial footfall and commercial success.
Culinary Hub Offering Diverse Food Options
The food court had established itself as a vibrant culinary destination, bringing together a diverse range of food outlets that showcased Lucknow's rich gastronomic heritage. Visitors could enjoy local favorites such as biryani, shawarma, kebabs, and various street food-style dishes alongside café-style snacks and beverages.
Several well-known food brands and local eateries operated within the facility, contributing to its reputation as a lively and dynamic food destination. The space had become particularly popular for family outings and gatherings of food enthusiasts, offering something for every palate in a convenient, centralized location.

In related development news, LDA officials announced that the under-construction Hussainabad museum will be opened to the public starting February 22. This new cultural attraction is expected to enhance the heritage experience for visitors to the area.
Meanwhile, vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar also reviewed the ongoing remodelling work at Daliganj crossing during his inspection tour. Officials found that progress at this site was slower than expected, causing inconvenience to the public. In response, the contractor was issued a notice and instructed to complete the work within one month. Failure to meet this deadline will result in penalties being imposed, according to LDA authorities.
