Ludhiana Improvement Trust Conducts Atal Apartment Draw for 179 Flats on Baisakhi

The Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) organized a significant draw of lots on Tuesday for the remaining 179 flats under the Atal Apartment scheme, coinciding with the festive occasion of Baisakhi. The event, held at Nehru Sidhant Kendra, saw active participation from Local Bodies Minister Sanjeev Arora and drew a large crowd of applicants and their families.

Minister Arora Announces Winners and Future Plans

During the ceremony, Minister Sanjeev Arora personally announced the first winner in the middle-income group (MIG) category, setting a celebratory tone for the proceedings. • The Trust received 571 applications for 43 high-income group (HIG) flats and 963 applications for 136 MIG flats.
  • A list of applicants was prominently displayed at the venue entrance prior to the draw.

Strong Public Response and Holiday Turnout

Held on a public holiday, the event attracted a substantial number of applicants accompanied by family members, reflecting high public interest. Bhinder noted that the draw received an excellent response from the community, underscoring the demand for affordable housing in Ludhiana.

Expansion into Low-Income Group Housing and Commercial Properties

Beyond the Atal Apartment scheme, the LIT is preparing to launch new housing projects specifically for low-income groups (LIG). These will include one-bedroom and two-bedroom flat options to cater to diverse needs.

Additionally, provisions will be made for commercial properties to support local businesses, creating integrated residential and commercial spaces.

Minister Arora's Commitments and Development Works

Minister Sanjeev Arora addressed attendees, highlighting ongoing responsibilities despite administrative changes:

  1. Although LIT has transferred all its colonies to the municipal corporation for maintenance, the Trust remains responsible for executing development works valued at approximately Rs 35 crore.
  2. He assured unsuccessful applicants that the government plans to roll out more housing schemes in the coming days, emphasizing continued efforts to address housing shortages.

Project Timeline and Historical Context

The Atal Apartment scheme has been a multi-phase initiative:

  • The first draw for 576 flats was conducted in June 2022.
  • Construction work commenced in December 2024.
  • While the original completion deadline was estimated for October 2026, officials are now striving to hand over possession by November-December of this year, indicating accelerated efforts.

This Baisakhi draw marks a pivotal step in Ludhiana's urban development, combining festive celebration with tangible progress in public housing. The LIT's initiatives demonstrate a commitment to expanding affordable housing options across income groups while fostering economic growth through commercial developments.
